Data Protection Act and SARs (Subject Access Requests)

The Data Protection Act is pertinent to ALL companies. Not only does it demand that data is secured, it also encompasses SAR (Subject Access Requests). These are typically issued in relation to wrongful dismissal or harassment/prejudice issues. They require that ALL pertinent documentation including emails HR records and letters are provided within 30 days. Losing data or being unable to find and produce it within 30 days breaches the Act and leads to fines.

Backup frequency and critical/legal data

Tapes are fragile, vulnerable to deterioration, loss in transit and non-compatibility between tape drives machines and operating systems. In order to recover from tape you first need to locate a complete backup set, transport this to your new server, install the correct tape drive model and operating system. Only then might recovery be possible. Because BCVault is offsite and online, there are no transit 'risks' and no compatibility problems.
